Pay It Forward Charity Event huge success
The Pay It Forward Charity Event on Saturday, 6 September 2014 at the Marimba Restaurant at the Cape Town International Convention Centre was an uplifting success. The motivational talks from accomplished speakers from different industries achieved the aim of the event, which was to inspire the pupils in attendance.
The talks were opened by The Bookery’s Project Development Officer, Jonny Wilkinson. The buzzing guest speaker Madge ‘The Sunflower’ du Preez set flight with an interactive talk. It was amplified by other guest speakers including D.A.D. founder Eddie Andrews, Pigeon Pie founder Marwaan Sasman, entrepreneur & Good Hope FM show host Loyiso ‘DJ Loyd’ Mdebuka, SANTL co-founder Malebo Ngoetjane, KFM sports anchor & Sunday Times columnist Sibongile Mafu and Inside Man Media founder Brian Mawdsley. The stellar performances by performance art group One Heart and the soothing voice of the soulful songbird Daphne Tuesday were perfect additions to the infectious atmosphere.
The success of the event can be attributed to the relentless fundraising efforts of the group of Public Relations and Event Management students from the Cape Peninsula University with the backing, guidance and support of The Bookery’s Nobesuthu Faku and Penny Dare.
The funds raised exceeded R10 000 through various fundraising efforts. Twenty poetry books by Madge ‘The Sunflower’ du Preez and six books by Andile Mngxitama were donated to The Bookery and the Peak View High School pupils in attendance.
